Childhood is Calling

Happy Friday! Tonight is the big sleepover and I'm as ready as I'm going to be, I guess. I have Sundrop's on ice, my Ipod is charged, and the Tylenol PM is packed! Emily Grace is very excited to become a Brownie and she can't wait to sleep in the scout hut.

It's a shame that we lose excitement over simple things like that as we grow older. I remember as a child the sheer joy of slumber parties, riding my bike with my friend next door, and spending summer weeks at my cousin's farm in the mountains. Now that I'm a school nurse, I have summers off, and this year I'm planning on bringing some of that excitement back with Emily Grace. I want her to know that you can have fun without the TV on 24/7, without spending money at the mall, and without all the electronic gadgets and gizmos (sorry Mark!). Picnics in the park, riding bikes, and reading good books are a few of the things I am planning for the summer. Eating watermelon slices while the pink juice runs down your arm and drips off your elbow and catching lightening bugs... that's the stuff summer should be made of. Seven more school days, and I am getting a little excited!
