Daisy to Brownie

Last night Emily Grace officially became a Brownie. The Girl Scout troop leaders of Cold Springs United Methodist Church had a ceremony for the awards the girls had earned and to "bridge" some of the girls to their next level. Emily Grace's group, the Daisies, sang two songs and were presented their badges and the older troops followed. Daisy Scout now a Brownie Girl ScoutShe was so proud to stand on that bridge in the church sanctuary holding her handful of daisies as her Daddy took pictures. I had the honor of standing on the other side of the bridge to congratulate her with the Girl Scout handshake, since I'm her new leader.

One of the girls received her Gold award, and her leader spoke about what was involved in obtaining that award. Unless you've been in Scouts or have known someone involved in the Scouting program, most people don't know what a commitment it takes for these kids/tweeens/young adults to complete the program. I didn't know myself until I met Mark. There are hundreds of hours (probably thousands, actually) and years of projects required to keep advancing to the highest level. I am very proud to be a wife of an Eagle Scout, and the mother of a Brownie. I'm so excited to lead Emily Grace's troop in the fall!

After the ceremony, the troop and their Mom's went to eat pizza and then returned to the Scout hut for the first sleepover. What a night! The girls had a great time, and I had fun watching her. Thank you Gina for the air mattress! I still wouldn't be sitting upright tonight if I hadn't had it last night! Emily Grace slept for three hours today and still went to bed at her regular time. I'm headed to bed myself....finally!
